Design a reinforced-concrete framed building the way most buildings in Bangladesh are built. Pick the town, site class and occupancy; the studio works out the BNBC 2020 seismic zone, design spectrum, base shear and storey forces, the wind load on both faces, storey drift and whether an open ground-floor car park makes a soft storey. It then designs the beams, columns, two-way slabs and isolated footings to BNBC Part 6 (ACI 318 strength design), takes off the quantities and prices them with the PWD Schedule of Rates 2022 (Revised) for the right region, next to the PWD plinth-area budget — with drawings, a 3D view, calculation sheets and Excel.
Scope & limitations
Preliminary design and budgeting for regular RC frame buildings. Irregular or tall buildings, and final designs, need a full 3D analysis and a structural engineer's design and review. Check the PWD rates in force before tendering.
What the BNBC 2020 Building Studio does
Earthquake (BNBC 2020 Sec 2.5): the town sets the seismic zone coefficient Z; with the site class (SA–SE), occupancy category and structural system the studio forms the design spectrum Sa = (2/3)(Z I / R) Cs, the period T = Ct hn^m, the base shear V = Sa W, the storey forces and the seismic design category, and checks that the frame type is permitted.
Wind (Sec 2.4): basic wind speed for the town, exposure A, B or C, qz = 0.000613 Kz Kzt Kd V² I and the windward and leeward pressures on both faces; the larger of factored wind and earthquake is reported for each direction.
Drift and soft storey: storey stiffness by the D-value method with cracked sections, drift Δ = Cd δe / I against the allowable drift, and brick infill as diagonal struts to show whether an open ground floor makes a soft storey — and, if you choose, the ground storey is designed for 2.5 times the earthquake forces.
Members: beams by the ACI moment coefficients plus the earthquake moments with capacity-design shear for special frames, columns by P–M interaction for every storey, strong column / weak beam, two-way slabs and isolated footings for bearing, punching and bending.
Cost: quantities of excavation, sand filling, soling, lean concrete, RCC, formwork, reinforcement, brick work, plaster, tiles and paint priced with the PWD Schedule of Rates 2022 (Revised) for Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna or Rajshahi region rates, with the upper-floor added rates, owner-managed deduction, quality assurance and contingencies, and the PWD plinth area rate budget for comparison. You can override any rate.
