Design reinforced concrete beams and columns to AS 3600:2018. Beams — rectangular or T, sagging or cantilever — are checked in flexure by strain compatibility, in shear and torsion with fitments, for crack control under service stress and for long-term deflection with the effective-stiffness method. Columns — rectangular or circular — get interaction diagrams about both axes, biaxial bending, slenderness with moment magnification and the detailing rules. Import forces from the 3D Frame Studio, send the member on to the Detailing & Bar Schedule Studio, and issue sections, diagrams, a 3D view, calculation sheets and Excel.
Scope & limitations
Preliminary member design for study and feasibility. Check durability, fire, load paths and detailing, and have the design verified by a qualified structural engineer.
What the RC Member Studio does
Beams are rectangular or T-sections with one or two layers of tension bars, compression bars and fitments. Flexure is solved by strain compatibility with the rectangular stress block, giving the neutral axis, kuo, the capacity factor and φMu, with the minimum-strength and minimum-steel rules.
Shear uses the AS 3600:2018 simplified method with the minimum-fitment check, steel contribution and web crushing; torsion uses the thin-walled tube with the crushing interaction, the fitment torsion capacity and the extra longitudinal steel. Crack control compares the cracked-section steel stress with Tables 8.6.1(A) and (B), and long-term deflection uses the effective second moment with shrinkage-reduced cracking moment and kcs.
Columns are rectangular or circular. Interaction diagrams about both axes come from strain compatibility with the AS 3600 capacity factor; biaxial bending uses the αn interaction, and slender columns are magnified with the buckling load from the balanced moment. Steel ratio, tie size and spacing and bar spacing are checked.
Forces can be imported from the 3D Frame Studio and the member sent to the Detailing & Bar Schedule Studio. Output: sections with strain and stress blocks, elevations, interaction diagrams, a 3D view, PDF calculation sheets, A3 drawings and Excel.
