Classify a house site and choose its footing. Enter the soil profile with shrink–swell index results and the climatic zone, and the studio integrates the characteristic surface movement ys through the suction-change profile, assigns the site class (A, S, M, H1, H2, E, with the deep-seated -D classes and problem sites), then selects the deemed-to-comply stiffened raft, waffle raft or strip footing for the wall construction — beam depths, spacing, reinforcement and mesh, with quantities you can send straight to the house estimator, plans, sections, a 3D view, calculation sheets and Excel.
Scope & limitations
Preliminary site classification and footing selection for study and estimating. Classification must come from a site investigation by a geotechnical engineer; Class E and P sites, trees, fill and abnormal moisture conditions need engineered design.
What the Reactive Site & Slab Studio does
Site classification: enter each soil layer with its shrink–swell index and choose the climatic zone (or enter Hs and Δu). The suction change falls linearly from Δu at the surface to zero at Hs and is cut off by a shallow water table; ys = (1/100) Σ α Iss Δu h is integrated in thin slices with α = 1.0 in the cracked zone and 2.0 − z/5 below it. The site class follows from ys, with the -D classes where Hs is 3 m or more, Class A for sand and rock, and Class P flagged for uncontrolled fill or nearby trees.
Footings: for the class and the wall construction (clad frame, articulated or plain masonry veneer, articulated or full masonry) the studio selects the deemed-to-comply stiffened raft (beam depth, maximum beam spacing, bottom trench mesh, top bars and slab mesh), waffle raft (overall depth, void former height, edge beam and rib reinforcement) or strip footing (depth, width, reinforcement and founding depth), and reports combinations that need an engineer.
Quantities: internal beams for the slab size, beam lengths, concrete, trench mesh, slab mesh and void formers. Send the class and beam depth to the house estimator with one button.
Output: the soil profile with Iss, suction change, cracked zone and cumulative ys; the class scale; slab plans with beams, ribs or footings; edge beam and footing sections; a 3D view, PDF calculation sheets, A3 drawings and Excel.
