Tilt-up & Precast Studio

Follow a concrete wall panel from the casting bed to the finished building. Describe the panel and its openings and the studio places the lifting inserts for the lowest stress, checks insert loads against their working load limit with dynamic and suction factors, the panel bending at lift-off at early-age strength and how it hangs; then the temporary braces under construction wind (brace force, buckling, foot anchors, base sliding) and finally the in-service slender wall with second-order moment and deflection — with elevations, moment diagrams, an animated 3D tilt, calculation sheets and Excel.

Scope & limitations

Preliminary panel design for study and feasibility. Inserts, braces and anchors are proprietary — confirm their capacities with the supplier and have the design and the lifting plan checked by a qualified engineer.

What the Tilt-up & Precast Studio does

The panel is a rectangle of given width, height and thickness with any number of openings; its weight and centre of gravity are calculated, and the concrete strength at lifting is entered separately from the 28-day strength.

Lifting: insert rows and columns are entered or placed automatically for the lowest stress. With equalising rigging the inserts share the load equally; the base reaction, the design insert load with dynamic and bed-suction factors and the panel bending in vertical and horizontal strips at lift-off are checked, together with how the panel hangs and the edge distances.

Temporary bracing: the construction wind on the erected panel gives the brace force, checked for buckling as a steel tube, the foot anchor uplift and shear, base sliding and panel bending between the base and the brace point.

In service the panel is a slender wall spanning between floor and roof: axial load with eccentricity and wind give a first-order moment magnified for P-Δ with the cracked stiffness, compared with the section capacity, and the service deflection is limited to H/150. Output: elevation, lifting and bracing diagrams, an animated 3D tilt, PDF calculation sheets, A3 drawings and Excel.
