Analyse an intersection from the count up. Enter the turning movements once and the studio times the signals — phasing, cycle, greens, delay, queues and LOS — runs a live simulation of the traffic, checks the same intersection as a roundabout and a priority junction so you can pick the control, and covers midblock capacity, sight distance, turn lanes and signal warrants, with an A3 drawing set, Excel workbook and calculation sheets.
Scope & limitations
For preliminary design and education. Calibrate saturation flows, gap parameters and growth with local surveys, use microsimulation for networks and oversaturated conditions, and have signal designs checked against the road authority's requirements.
What the traffic & intersection studio does
Traffic: enter the peak-hour turning movement count once, with the vehicle mix, growth to the design year and the peak-hour factor; the studio converts it to passenger-car units and design-hour volumes and draws the turning movement diagram.
Traffic signals: lanes per approach drawn to scale for left- or right-hand traffic, four phasing schemes with protected and filtering turns, saturation flow by Akçelik, HCM or RR67, intergreens from speed and crossing width, the Webster cycle lengthened to the practical degree of saturation, greens, delay (HCM or Webster), 95th percentile queues, LOS, reserve capacity and pedestrian timing.
A live simulation runs vehicles through the same timing: Poisson arrivals, queues, saturation discharge and gap-seeking turns, with live queue statistics against the predicted queues.
The same count is checked as a roundabout (HCM 7, gap acceptance or Kimber LR942 with the origin–destination matrix and circulating flows) and as a priority junction (HCM gap acceptance with ranks and impedance) so the three control types can be compared side by side.
Roads and safety: HCM freeway and multilane capacity with the Greenshields model and shockwaves, stopping and intersection sight distance by code, turn lane storage and deceleration length and the MUTCD eight-hour warrant. Outputs: an A3 drawing set, an Excel workbook with live timing, delay, roundabout, gap-acceptance, sight distance and warrant formulas, calculation sheets and JSON.
