Water & wastewater treatment plant studio

Design a treatment plant in phases, from the population forecast to the bill of quantities. Pick a wastewater process — conventional activated sludge, extended aeration, MLE, A2O with biological phosphorus, SBR, MBR or MBBR — or a drinking-water train with coagulation, lamella or DAF clarification, rapid gravity filters or ultrafiltration, UV and chlorine. The studio sizes every unit for each phase's modules, checks the effluent licence or the pathogen log-removal targets, analyses the secondary clarifiers, sludge, biogas, energy and carbon, draws the process flow diagram, site layout, hydraulic profile and a 3D model, and prices CAPEX, OPEX and whole-life cost.

Scope & limitations

Concept and feasibility design. Kinetic constants, unit loadings and costs are typical values — confirm with wastewater characterisation, jar and pilot tests, the discharge licence or health-based target assessment, and the regulator.

What the treatment plant studio does

Choose a wastewater or a drinking-water plant, set the base population, growth rate and the construction phases, and the studio works out the flows and loads for every phase (Harmon peaking, infiltration, industrial loads; maximum-day demand and process losses) and how many identical process modules each phase must build.

Wastewater plants are designed by the Metcalf & Eddy steady-state method at the minimum temperature: inlet screens and grit, primary clarifiers, conventional activated sludge, extended aeration, MLE, A2O with biological phosphorus, SBR, MBR or MBBR — nitrification SRT, biomass and sludge production, anoxic volume and internal recycle, oxygen demand, fine-bubble aeration and blower power, alkalinity, clarifier state-point analysis, tertiary filters and UV or chlorine; then thickening, anaerobic digestion with biogas and CHP, and dewatering.

Water treatment plants get intake and raw-water pumping, coagulant and lime doses, rapid mix and flocculation, conventional, lamella or DAF clarification, rapid gravity filters with Ergun head loss and backwash or ultrafiltration, chlorine CT and UV with a log-removal account against the health-based targets, clear-water storage and residuals.

Every plant gets a hydraulic profile, a site layout coloured by phase, a 3D model with a build-out animation, a water-retaining wall check, energy and carbon, CAPEX by phase, OPEX and whole-life cost, PDF calculation sheets, A3 drawings, Excel with live formulas and a priced bill of quantities.
